Non-Diet Dietitians
What does 'non-diet' mean and what do dietitians do?
Your relationship with food and body are the most important relationships you'll ever have. Learn how and why we take a 'non-diet' approach.
We don't talk about weight much here; we offer non-diet nutrition advice.
In short, we don't believe your weight is the most interesting thing about you. We help all bodies and all minds. Wherever you are and whatever struggle you have with food, we offer judgment-free and affirming nutrition care.
A non-diet approach to nutrition takes the focus off weight, calories and punishment and onto healthy behaviours, habits and eating patterns.
A non-diet approach unlocks this and allows you to thrive. We offer non-diet nutrition advice that is:
-
weight neutral
-
neuro-affirming
-
trauma informed
Client Experience Feedback
"...I want to say I gigantic thank you for your help so far. As I was reflecting on our sessions it has blown my mind how much better everything is – and we are only at our fourth session. I really appreciate everything you have done and have never felt better about eating in my life... I am no longer ashamed because I reached out, got help and I am now doing better".
~ Client sought support from Isabelle for binge eating.
Isabelle is proud to offer evidence-based, non-diet treatment as a trusted Accredited Practicing Dietitian in Australia.
You can access support anywhere in Australia via telehealth from the comfort of your own home (coming to consults in pyjamas, eating lunch or with pets is A-OK around here!).

With support from Nourish Avenue, you will be listened to and supported to achieve your best relationship with food.

"Here at Nourish Avenue, we see health as a
long-term commitment to enjoying and celebrating life, not a quick fix plan that feels strenuous and impossible to maintain"

What do dietitians do?
Accredited Practicing Dietitians (APD’s) are university qualified and nationally accredited nutrition experts. Dietitians are an allied health professional and practice medical nutrition therapy.
Isabelle has completed two University degrees across five years and several years of post-graduate research and training. She participates in professional supervision to maintain her eating disorder credential and has collaborated with other Australian businesses to improve nutrition care.
Dietitian vs. Nutritionist:
what’s the difference?
Nutritionists do not need an accredited degree to call themselves nutritionists (you could be receiving help from a severely underqualified Instagram influencer). No formal qualifications are needed to use the term ‘ Nutritionist’.
Only APD’s can provide medical nutrition therapy and hospital care for complex and chronic conditions in Australia. APD’s are also the only accepted nutrition professional to claim medicare rebates, DVA, NDIS and health insurance.
What is weight-neutral care?
Weight neutral and ‘non-diet’ approaches to nutrition are focussed on improving overall health and wellness. Rather than seeing weight as the centre of health, it is seen as a small piece of the puzzle. Weight neutral care at Nourish Avenue focusses on addressing a variety of health behaviours to achieve long term physical and mental health, rather than focussing solely on weight-based outcomes.
Weight centric care opens up opportunity for stigmatisation, blame and judgement. Instead, we foster weight neutral approaches that allow space for deeper exploration, curiosity and support regardless of body size, sexual orientation, social status or ethnicity.
How can Nourish Avenue help you?
With the approach explained above, we can help you with:
Physical health:
-
gut conditions (IBS / IBD), gastrointestinal disorders, food allergies and intolerances
-
womens health (endometriosis, PCOS, menopause)
-
chronic disease (diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol)
Mental health:
-
eating disorders (including binge eating disorder, bulimia nervosa and ARFID)
-
weight concerns
-
chronic or yo-yo dieting
-

-
overcoming food fears
-

Client Experience Feedback
"Izzy is so compassionate! She really tries to understand and meet you where you are. She makes it very easy to open up about these behaviors that I have always been scared to discuss..."
~ Client sought support from Isabelle for chronic dieting
Why choose Nourish Avenue?
Nourish Avenue is one of few nutrition practices in Tasmania (and nationally) that advocate for weight neutral care and actively stay up to date with relevant evidence.
Isabelle does not solely focus on weight or weight loss as a tool for measuring success. Instead she will help you understand, curiously explore and improve a range of health behaviours and habits to make your health and life better.
If you resonate with the weight-neutral approach explained above or are curious what this type of care looks like, we invite you to reach out to discuss next steps.
In the spirit of this model of care, a specific diet or strict meal plan will not be recommended unless medically necessary. Instead, Isabelle will explore weight-neutral and non-diet eating principles to help you develop a great relationship with food and your body.
